Sleep Services

Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health. If you snore, wake up feeling tired, or struggle with daytime fatigue, you may be experiencing a sleep disorder. At Dr Lydia Mowlem, we are here to help you understand what’s happening while you sleep and to guide you towards effective treatment.

What is a Sleep Study?

A sleep study is a simple test that helps us find out what’s going on with your breathing and sleep patterns overnight. It measures things like:

  • How often you stop or pause breathing during sleep
  • Oxygen levels in your blood
  • Heart rate and snoring
  • Sleep position and movement

This information helps us diagnose conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), restless legs syndrome, and other sleep problems that can affect your health and energy levels.

Home-Based Sleep Studies

Many people are surprised to learn that you don’t always need to go to hospital for a sleep study. In fact, most of our patients complete their test in the comfort of their own home.

We’ll provide you with a small, easy-to-use monitoring device and show you exactly how to set it up. You simply wear it while you sleep, then return it the next day. It’s safe, comfortable, and gives us accurate results to work with.

Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)

OSA is one of the most common sleep conditions we treat. It happens when your airway repeatedly collapses or becomes blocked during sleep, causing snoring, pauses in breathing, and restless nights.

The good news? It’s very treatable. Depending on your needs, treatment options may include:

  • CPAP therapy – a small machine that gently delivers air to keep your airway open at night.
  • Oral appliances – similar to a mouthguard, custom-fitted to reposition your jaw and improve airflow.
  • Lifestyle changes – like weight management, reducing alcohol before bed, and improving sleep routines.
  • Referral for surgery – in some cases where other treatments aren’t suitable.

Our team will take the time to talk you through each option and find the approach that works best for you.

How Much Does a Home Sleep Study Cost?

A home sleep study is free (bulk billed) if you have a valid GP or specialist referral, a Medicare card, and meet the Medicare eligibility criteria.
